The National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, CO saw record-breaking crowds show up over its first weekend of January 07-08, 2023. I was able to sit down with NWSS President & CEO Paul Andrews on that first weekend’s Sunday afternoon to get his thoughts on the record turnout. Hint: America and even the tv show Yellowstone might be involved in those record numbers…

You can find my interview with Paul Andrews, along with a number of photos from the first weekend, on the website for the Fence Post magazine – https://www.thefencepost.com/news/celebrating-america-breaks-records/

The world famous Westernaires are a staple of the national Western Stock Show and 2023 was no different as big rodeo crowds on the opening Saturday were treated to patriotic displays from the trick riders of the youth riding organization. Image by Lincoln Rogers, 2023 – All rights reserved.

Happy 4th of July

Independence Day. 4th of July. The American holiday that celebrates independence, freedom and liberty evokes different passions for people. For me, it always stirs a deep emotional response as I consider all the sacrifices made throughout the USA’s history by people believing their lives were not such a steep price to pay for future generations to live in a country free of tyranny and totalitarianism. We seem to be on the precipice of losing our freedoms to an ever encroaching government in this day and age, but those sacrifices made in the past will be honored by me and my family in the present. God bless you and God save America. And Happy 4th of July!

National Western Stock Show fans and fans of its rodeo love their country and are proud to honor and respect the American flag. The NWSS rodeo crew goes out of its way to create memorable ceremonies like this rendition of the National Anthem with the lights off and the spotlight on before the start of action during the final weekend of the 2022 NWSS.

“Shall Not Be Infringed” by Lincoln Rogers
A patriotic image using text directly from the Second Amendment of the USA’s Bill of Rights — “…the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Many thanks to the buyer from Castle Rock, CO for liking this enough to buy it for someone to WEAR!!! Would be fun to see this out in public someday.

Happy Flag Day fellow Americans!

Today is Flag Day in the United States of America — June 14, 2021.

So what else could I possibly do but put together a patriotic American Flag image out of several of my photos in honor of the day?

Proud to be an American — Patriotic image put together as a composite from Lincoln Rogers images. All rights reserved, Lincoln Rogers. 2021

Do you know how Flag Day in the USA started? Here is the detail…

Flag Day in the USA commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The Flag Resolution, passed on June 14, 1777, stated: “Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”

And now you know! Happy Flag Day fellow Americans.

The Last Remaining…

Those words sound almost mournful. The last remaining…

That means there used to be more, maybe even a plentiful supply.

But now there is one.

Drawing their sabres, the last Marine Mounted Color Guard presents the colors as ready for the singing of the National Anthem and the kickoff of rodeo action before a sold-out Saturday night crowd (June 05) at the 2021 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo in Elizabeth, CO.

The last remaining Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard participated again in the 2021 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo in Elizabeth, CO. If you appreciate having Old Glory honored with a bit of pomp and circumstance, you would love to see how these Marines ride in with the colors and present them for the singing of the National Anthem.

It is awesome. They are awesome.

And they are the last remaining…

Stampeding Ahead!

2021 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo is ready to go for June 03-06, 2021

Forced to cancel the 2020 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo in Elizabeth, CO, rodeo organizers were faced with more unknowns in the beginning of 2021, but they rolled up their sleeves and secured 150% of sponsorships they had in the past. It was a strategy that allowed them to move forward.

“We did it,” said Elizabeth Stampede President Traci McClain.  “We got 50% more sponsors than we have ever had in the past — 150% of normal.  The community really stepped up. They reached out and supported us in a big way.”

With the state of Colorado dropping mask mandates in May and declaring other coronavirus state public health orders will expire June 01, Stampede officials are looking forward to a busy rodeo, albeit one with safety measures and precautions in place.

“We want everyone to be safe,” added McClain.  “I think we have the safeguards in place that we need to do to make it safe for our participants – contestants, spectators, contractors, everybody – to allow them to make choices.”

Kicking off with a concert on Thursday night (June 03) that features three entertainers or, as Stampede organizers like to call it, “A Trio of Talent” — the three dynamic up-and-comers are making a splash in the music scene: Dillon Carmichael, Lainey Wilson, and Kameron Marlowe.

Friday night is bull riding and is annually sold out in advance of the rodeo, and Saturday night’s PRCA rodeo is annually sold out in advance, as well. The afternoon performances on Saturday and Sunday traditionally have solid crowds, but walk up tickets can usually be purchased. Don’t miss out on Sunday afternoon’s Red, White & Blue Rodeo, which features a love of all things USA and honors those who have served and are serving in our nation’s armed forces.

The Elizabeth Stampede’s Blazing Saddles drill team impressed the crowd with a patriotic routine during Sunday afternoon’s Red, White and Blue Rodeo (June 05, 2016).

“Life, Liberty and Rodeo,” summed up McClain in reference to a new trademarked slogan and apparel design they have come up with for 2021’s rodeo. “That is our guiding principle, this year.”

For more information on the Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo or to purchase tickets for the concert or any of the rodeo performances, check out their website at https://www.elizabethstampede.com/
