My latest article with accompanying photography has just been published. It is about the award winning and record breaking 2022 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo celebrating their 35th year as a professional PRCA rodeo. The story and photos are separate from the big photo spread that has also been published! Click on the link or the image to go to the story and photos.

Great rodeo to cover for publication! Fast horses, big action and awesome weather this past weekend in Elizabeth, CO. I am neck deep in working on photos and interviews, but will post items from the recent 2022 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo when I get a chance. Here is one image I have ready. Experienced Colorado barrel racer Kelly Yates won the barrel racing title in 2022.

Veteran Colorado barrel racer Kelly Yates powered around the first barrel and showed the sold-out Sunday afternoon crowd how it was done as she absolutely blazed through the pattern in a time of 16.08 seconds on her way to picking up the 2022 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo’s barrel racing title. The Elizabeth Stampede regularly has NFR competitors and former WPRA world champions show up to compete in the award winning rodeo, so a win in Elizabeth comes against stiff competition.

I’ve been on a a bit of a self-induced content creation blitz the last week or so as the award winning Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo is coming up quick (first weekend of June). This latest video is a fast-paced piece that is a compilation of my photography of that rodeo over the years 2003-2021. It’s been a pleasure to cover that rodeo for publication in numerous magazines over the last couple of decades. Click on the link or the image to go to the video on the Rumble platform.

The Elizabeth Stampede’s Blazing Saddles drill team impressed the crowd with a patriotic routine during Sunday afternoon’s Red, White and Blue Rodeo (June 05, 2016).

I hope you enjoy!

The Fence Post magazine has previously published my article and photo spread images from the 2021 Cheyenne Frontier Days championship round of rodeo. One thing about Cheyenne is that there are always more photos to be shared from there than can fit into magazines!

As a result, I thought I would post on this blog 10 victory images from the 10 categories that win titles and buckles at the historic Wyoming rodeo. Due to space limitations, most of these images did not make the pages of the magazine, so I wanted them to see life here in this blog.

I hope you enjoy.

3-time PRCA world champion bareback cowboy Tim O’Connell rode MLW’s Irish Eyes to an 89-point score and a Cheyenne Frontier Days title during Sunday’s championship round on August 01, 2021. The win was O’Connell’s second Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo title.
Sawyer Gilbert of Buffalo, SD (middle) poses in front of the big crowd with her championship saddle after winning the 2021 Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo Women’s Breakaway Roping event. 2021 was the just the second year of CFD hosting the event and the first year they added even money with the rest of the rodeo events.
7-time NFR qualifier Marty Yates went first in the Tie Down Roping and posted the championship round’s fastest time of 10.3 seconds to win the 2021 CFD buckle on August 01, 2021.
Utah cowboy Stetson Wright rode a high kicking Feather Fluffer for 90 points in Sunday’s (August 01) championship round for the saddle bronc title at the 2021 Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo.
Heeler Jade Corkill was in process of throwing his loop for a successful run of 10.2 seconds to help win a Cheyenne title with Clay Smith. The win was Corkill’s third Cheyenne buckle (’09, ’13, ’21).
Montana Steer Wrestler Newt Novich tied a Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo arena record with this 5.1-second time in Sunday’s (August 01) championship round to win the buckle and a big check.
25-year-old Kansas Steer Roper Cole Patterson was all smiles when he was congratulated and interviewed inside the stadium arena after winning the title at the 2021 CFD.
3-time world champion barrel racer Hailey Kinsel and her popular mare “Sister” nailed down the fastest time of 17.30 seconds in the short go to win the CFD buckle on Sunday August 01, 2021.
Australian bull rider Ky Hamilton rode a leaping bull to earn the best score of the entire Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo and take home the 2021 CFD title.
Utah cowboy Stetson Wright acknowledges the applause of the big crowd as he was awarded the All Around title at the 2021 Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo in Cheyenne, WY. Wright won the title by earning money in both the saddle bronc and bull riding competitions (placing 1st in saddle bronc and 4th in bull riding) to become the only roughstock cowboy to earn consecutive CFD All Around buckles since the legendary Jim Shoulders did it way back in 1963-1964.

Hailey Kinsel & “Sister” Dominate Cheyenne’s Championship Round

Hailey Kinsel and her mare “Sister” have become a well-known story. Obtaining the gorgeous palomino mare as a two-year-old, Hailey and her mother trained the horse themselves and now have a powerhouse competitor on their hands. How much of a powerhouse?

Kinsel and 10-year-old Sister have won three consecutive WPRA barrel racing world titles and are household names in the sport, with a legion of fans following them both.

Despite the stunning accomplishments, the duo had not yet won the prestigious Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. Until 2021, that is. And they made sure to take care of that oversight in dominating fashion. Kinsel and Sister powered through the cloverleaf pattern in a blistering 17.30 seconds. To put it in context, second place was 17.47 seconds and third place was 17.62. In a sport where hundredths of a second count, the final result was dominant.

“My horse is amazing,” said Kinsel as she made sure to give credit where credit is due immediately following the big win in Cheyenne. “By the grace of God she has carried me to some amazing places.  She is truly the best thing in my life.”

You can find my latest photo spread link that was published online regarding the record setting 2021 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo on the website of The Fence Post magazine.

Colorado barrel racer Shali Lord sprinted for the timers on Can Man after the third barrel on her way to a 16.30-second time on Sunday afternoon and 4th place in the 2021 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo.

I hope you enjoy the photos! I know I enjoy sending submissions to the good people over at The Fence Post. They are great to work with.

Cheyenne Frontier Days Returns

After being forced to cancel their world famous rodeo in 2020, Cheyenne Frontier Days, “The Daddy of ‘Em All!” will return in 2021 (July 23-August 01) with the 125th running at the historic Wyoming venue.

I missed the rodeo when it didn’t run last year, and I look forward to heading back up to Cheyenne this year in July when it returns with a bang.

I thought I would attach some photos of mine taken during some past CFD rodeos. I hope you enjoy.

Wade Sundell didn’t let the rain bother him on his way to a 90-point ride and a buckle aboard Frontier Rodeo’s Maple Leaf in 2013’s CFD championship round.
Texas cowboy Scott Kormos won the coveted Tie Down Roping title at the 2013 Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo.
Richie Champion won the 2014 CFD bareback title by making one of the most memorable rides in Cheyenne history aboard Dirty Jacket for a 91-point score.
Utah cowboy Stetson Wright brought the house down with this near record 93-point ride aboard a bull named Safety Meeting to win the 2019 Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo title.
Colorado barrel racer Shali Lord and Can Man blast towards the third barrel on their way to a 17.22-second time and a tie for 2019 Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo title.

Just a few photos from some past CFD rodeos. I hope you liked them. I know I am looking forward to getting back there in 2021!

God bless and have a great day.

2019 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo Article is Now Published

My latest article in The Fence Post magazine is about the recent Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo and their hard work in putting on a pair of rodeo performances on Saturday alone.  For a town with a population of just 1,400, it is an amazing feat to see them host about 5,000 people in the stands and on the grounds over those two Saturday performances.

Colorado barrel racer Shali Lord explodes into the third barrel on her way to a 16.14-second time on Sunday afternoon’s round of rodeo action at the 2019 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo in Elizabeth, CO. Lord’s time was just .01 seconds behind Amy Jo Reisdorfer’s and Brittany Pozzi-Tonozzi’s winning time of 16.13 seconds.
A pair of rodeos keeps organizers and volunteers busy on Saturday

A LOT more photos should be in the print edition coming out this coming Monday (June 24, 2019).
