I love covering the RAM Invitational Freestyle Reining competition that takes place at Denver’s National Western Stock Show. Freestyle reining allows the contestants to choose their outfits/costumes, their music and their routines in the arena. Tons of creativity and oftentimes great lighting for dramatic photographs. The contestants consistently call this freestyle competition the best in the country, with a number of them over the years calling it the best in the world.

This routine by Sharee Schwartzenberger aboard her horse “Game Day Surprise” was one of my favorites this year. Very nice. There will be an upcoming story with photos published soon.

In a beautiful display of costume and horseback choreography set to stirring music, back-to-back NWSS freestyle reining winner and defending champion Sharee Schwartzenberger used fog, spotlights, and the audience members’ camera phones to create an atmosphere of clouds and stars as she paid tribute to the important people in our lives, those “stars” that surround us and that we should never take for granted. Schwartzenberger’s bridleless routine on “Game Day Surprise” scored 222 points, which was good enough for 3rd place in the prestigious event. Image by Lincoln Rogers – all rights reserved.

Congratulations to Franktown, CO horse trainer Devin Warren on winning the prestigious $25,000 RAM Invitational Freestyle Reining competition at the historic national Western Stock Show in Denver, CO. Warren’s 226.5-point score riding Lil Joes Cash N Gold put him atop the field for the sold-out competition held inside the National Western Events Center’s Cinch Arena. It was a great competition. I will be putting together a story and more photos in the near future.

I created some added video content to follow up — and pair with — my published article (May 02, 2022 in The Fence Post magazine — “The Source Is The Horse, Of Course“) about the trailblazing Colorado companies that are creating quality compost from 100% equine waste.

It is a short video (just over a minute) that includes photos, video clips and audio interview clips. I thought those companies deserved some added content!  Just click on the link or the image to get to the video located on the Rumble platform.

An Aeromaster turner is attached to the tractor and not only completely turns over the windrow, but also applies moisture and nutrients to the windrow while it does so.

A Pair of Related Colorado Companies Blaze a Trail by Taking What is Left Behind

Richer Lands Compost owner and manager Jonathan Whetstine (right) talks to an employee while the tractor creeps ahead during the turning of horse manure compost windrows. An Aeromaster turner is attached to the tractor and not only completely turns over the windrow, but also applies moisture and nutrients to the windrow while it does so.

A new article of mine is now out on the website of The Fence Post magazine and will be in their upcoming print edition (Monday May 02, 2022). Colorado Manure Hauling (CMH) and Richer Lands Compost are believed to be the only business combination in the country to perform the hauling and composting of equine waste to create a high-quality compost for commercial and residential use. While other businesses compost horse manure, they blend it with other organics. CMH and Richer Lands Compost look to be the only ones to use equine waste as a single-source for their final product.

https://www.thefencepost.com/news/the-source-is-the-horse-of-course/

I hope you enjoy the article and learning about how these Colorado companies are leading the way in creating high quality equine waste compost.

Hailey Kinsel and her mare “Sister” have become a well-known story. Obtaining the gorgeous palomino mare as a two-year-old, Hailey and her mother trained the horse themselves and now have a powerhouse competitor on their hands. How much of a powerhouse?

Kinsel and 10-year-old Sister have won three consecutive WPRA barrel racing world titles and are household names in the sport, with a legion of fans following them both.

Despite the stunning accomplishments, the duo had not yet won the prestigious Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. Until 2021, that is. And they made sure to take care of that oversight in dominating fashion. Kinsel and Sister powered through the cloverleaf pattern in a blistering 17.30 seconds. To put it in context, second place was 17.47 seconds and third place was 17.62. In a sport where hundredths of a second count, the final result was dominant.

3-time world champion barrel racer Hailey Kinsel and her popular mare "Sister" nailed down the fastest time of 17.30 seconds in the championship round to win the Cheyenne Frontier Days buckle on Sunday August 01, 2021.
3-time world champion barrel racer Hailey Kinsel and her popular mare “Sister” blew into the first barrel during the championship round of rodeo at the 2021 Cheyenne Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The duo nailed down the fastest time of 17.30 seconds in the round to win the CFD buckle on Sunday August 01, 2021.

“My horse is amazing,” said Kinsel as she made sure to give credit where credit is due immediately following the big win in Cheyenne. “By the grace of God she has carried me to some amazing places.  She is truly the best thing in my life.”

Happy Flag Day fellow Americans!

My most recent article in The Fence Post magazine is now out on their website. It is Part Two of the comprehensive equine dentistry article, which focuses on myths and misconceptions.

You can find Part 2 on their website here

While a horse is sedated, has its mouth opened with a specula, and resting its head on a padded platform, Dr. Kari Sanderson uses a motorized disc tool to take off points and sharp edges on the teeth. The tool allows more control and better precision than hand rasps, along with being more gentle to the teeth.

I am putting together a two-part article about modern equine dentistry and the benefits of it, along with myths and misconceptions. Part One is out now on the website of The Fence Post magazine. It will also be in The Fence Post’s print edition this week (May 20, 2019).

Click here to see the article on The Fence Post’s website.

15-year-old Camelot is stalled, sedated, and looked after by vet technician Marisa DeMattia while Dr. Kari Sanderson (seated) performs a comprehensive oral exam before working on the horse’s teeth. Advance Equine Dentistry encourages horse owners to be present and watch everything that is happening in the exam, in order to be better educated about equine oral health and to see their horse’s mouths in person. Camelot’s owner, Dr. Tamarah Rodrigeuz (bottom right), was present for the appointment.
