The Blessing of Business…

I had the blessing of a company approaching me this week about using one of my images for promotional and marketing purposes. It won’t be earth-shaking usage, but it is a nice-sized company and having them approach me out of the blue is pretty cool. One of the best parts about it is that I know it doesn’t happen without God sending them my way.

Why do I say that?

There is a passage in the book of Matthew, chapter 6, where Jesus is talking to people about their worries in life. You know, the universal items that can consume our thoughts. Will we have enough to eat? Will we have enough to drink? Will we have clothes to wear? Jesus told the crowd listening to Him that “… your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.” (Matt. 6:32) But then He gave them the reason He was telling them not to worry.

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

That is why I know beyond a doubt that the people, companies, organizations, etc. that approach me out of the blue to do business have been sent my way by God. And it is one more reason I can keep working on applying another passage in the bible that says, “… for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.” (Philippians 4:11)

Not easy to do these days, but it is not something I have to worry about!

My latest article with photos has just been published online on the website of The Fence Post magazine. It will be in this coming Monday’s print edition, as well. The article and photography cover the 2022 Farm & Ranch Day (Saturday May 28th) put on by the Colorado Agricultural Leadership Foundation (CALF) at their facilities located on the historic Lowell Ranch outside of Castle Rock, CO. Please read the article, where you will see quotes from CALF youth participants (Kenzie Summervill and Isabelle Carlblom) as well as hear from the CEO of CALF (Brooke Fox) and its new Program Manager, Alyce Todd. The 2021 Douglas County Fair in Castle Rock, CO set records in the Junior Livestock Sale and in attendance for its rodeo performances. The fairgrounds were packed during the weekends and had plenty of people showing up during the week, as well.

The Fence Post magazine has published a photo spread of my images taken during the days I visited the fair in 2021. I hope you enjoy!

https://www.thefencepost.com/news/record-setting-2021-douglas-county-fair-rodeo-in-castle-rock-colo/

As evidenced by the crush of hungry people in the food vendor area leading away towards the carnival section of the fairgrounds, the 2021 Douglas County Fair looked like it was the place to be over the last weekend of the Castle Rock, CO event.

Admit it. You don’t go to a County Fair to eat healthy. But I was wondering…

Is there such a thing as a County Fair WITHOUT a grill serving up huge Turkey Legs?

A pile of turkey legs cooking up on a grill at the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo in Castle Rock, CO.

Can’t think of one? I didn’t think so!

For the Love of Chuckwagons

Good vittles! We all love good food, right? And authentic chuckwagon cooking is some of the best.

My article and photos about some of the chuckwagon participants at the 125th Cheyenne Frontier Days is published now on The Fence Post magazine’s website. Chuckwagon crews are great people, and great to talk with, as well.

https://www.thefencepost.com/news/for-the-love-of-chuckwagons/

Chuckwagon Cookoff participants are also judged on the authenticity and period correctness of their wagons. As a result, the Cheyenne Frontier Days competition brings a great assortment of authentic wagons to the event, including this Newton Wagon Works chuckwagon brought by Sam Howell of Odessa, Texas.

As I say in my article, “Whether it is rodeo or even authentic cowboy cooking, the “Daddy of ‘Em All” makes people love coming to Cheyenne Frontier Days.”

Let the Grilling Commence!

Since it is an American holiday and kind of the kickoff to the summer grilling season, Memorial Day is a time when grills and smokers get fired up all across the fruited plain. We did our part and even went vintage by using buffalo meat for the burgers.

I almost felt like a pioneer!

Almost…

Soooo… is it obvious that I’ve got pie on the brain?  That’s all right, there’s no need to panic.  It’s not contagious… unless you happen to be near our kitchen.  Then those simple ingredients in the photo above will leave the pleasure center of your brain begging for mercy.

Isn’t that how life should be?

Simple ingredients.  Nothing fancy.  You can find them anywhere.  In this case, it is chopped pecans, caramel squares and eggs.  Combine those simple ingredients with a few others, bake in a heated oven and voila!  Caramel Pecan Pie.  Your taste buds will never be the same.

In the case of life, it’s much the same way.  Really.  Simple ingredients combined together can make life sweet.  Ingredients like love, respect, trust and faith.  We’ve all got them inside of us.  Every one of us.  And you know what?  It’s up to us whether we will share them or not; allow them to be combined and heated in the oven of life’s challenges.

If we will, the end result will always be sweet.  And we’ll never be the same…

Have a great Thanksgiving holiday and don’t let your horse come home without ya!

Pecan Pie Memory…

Can’t you just taste it?

This time of year – coming up close to the traditional Thanksgiving Day holiday and meal with family – starts getting my memory synapses firing on all cylinders.  I like dessert, so one of my favorite memories is the taste of warm Pecan Pie after an amazing Thanksgiving Day meal.

Image

It’s not just the taste of the pie I enjoy relishing in my mind.  That warm Pecan Pie nostalgia also brings with it a host of other great memories.  Laughter around the table.  Smiles and hugs with loved ones.  A time when people are happy to be with each other.

Can’t you just taste it?
