With a degree from Colorado State University’s equine sciences program and working for the American Quarter Quarter Horse Association in her rearview mirror, along with a goal of obtaining a master’s degree on the road ahead of her, 25-year-old Ashley Baller is an accomplished, bilingual, first generation cowgirl from Parker, Colo., who earned the honor of wearing the iconic turquoise Miss Rodeo Colorado crown and representing the state of Colorado for the year 2022. I had the pleasure of talking with her about becoming and being 2022’s Miss Rodeo Colorado during a break in action at the Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo. The Q&A with photos has been published on The Fence Post magazine’s website and will be in the upcoming print edition (Monday June 20). The Greeley Stampede Rodeo is celebrating its 100 Year milestone in 2022. Originally billed as the Greeley Spud Rodeo in 1922 to honor the area’s potato farmers, the Greeley, CO event has been a long-running staple of the region. I spoke with Justin Watada, the Greeley Stampede’s General Manager, by phone about their upcoming 100th (running June 23-July 4, 2022) and the Q&A with historical photos from the early years, along with a number of my photos spanning 2005-2021, has already been published on The Fence Post magazine’s website and will be in this coming Monday’s print edition. I created a short video that is a brief recap of the concert night that kicked off the 2022 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo in Elizabeth, CO. The video is a compilation of some of my photos and video shot during the event. It is on the Rumble platform. Click the link or the image to go to the video.
I was busy at the 125th Cheyenne Frontier Days in 2021. Although I could only attend for two days, I made the most of them, being able to put together stories about the CFD Museum, the chuckwagon cooking, and the championship round of rodeo.
The Fence Post magazine’s website has published more photography of mine from Cheyenne. Follow the link and take a look!
The historic Greeley Stampede returned in 2021 for its 99th running and the surrounding community showed up in huge numbers to support their big summer rodeo and the concerts and events that are also held in the 8,000+ seat arena.
I had the pleasure of being able to visit the National Western Center/Complex in Denver, CO and take photos of the construction progress, as well as talk to a number of the spokespeople for the entities involved in the construction and expansion of the National Western Center grounds and buildings. Most people will know the location as the site where the historic National Western Stock Show takes place every January.
What most people don’t know is how massive the scope and size of the expansion and construction project is. After a couple of hours on site, talking to the awesome spokespeople and taking photos of the construction progress, I felt like trying to absorb the information in front of me was akin to drinking water through a firehose!
There is so much going on, beyond just getting the new Stockyards Events Center ready for 2022’s National Western Stock Show and moving ahead with other construction. I have a lot of interview on tape and will be transcribing it ASAP.
I can’t wait to write a number of magazine articles about the progress of the 1.3 billion dollar expansion project and what it means for January 2022 at the National Western Stock Show.
It is impressive! More to come regarding this in the future.
