The National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, CO saw record-breaking crowds show up over its first weekend of January 07-08, 2023. I was able to sit down with NWSS President & CEO Paul Andrews on that first weekend’s Sunday afternoon to get his thoughts on the record turnout. Hint: America and even the tv show Yellowstone might be involved in those record numbers…

You can find my interview with Paul Andrews, along with a number of photos from the first weekend, on the website for the Fence Post magazine – https://www.thefencepost.com/news/celebrating-america-breaks-records/

The world famous Westernaires are a staple of the national Western Stock Show and 2023 was no different as big rodeo crowds on the opening Saturday were treated to patriotic displays from the trick riders of the youth riding organization. Image by Lincoln Rogers, 2023 – All rights reserved.

There is no other name more synonymous with the sport of ProRodeo than Trevor Brazile. Winner of a record breaking 26 world champion titles in four separate categories — Team Roping, Tie Down Roping, Steer Roping and All Around — the Texas cowboy seemed to forever be at the top of the game. Inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame on July 16, 2022, I had the opportunity to have a conversation with Trevor behind the scenes before he received his buckle and statue and before he gave his acceptance speech. The Q&A and some photography of mine of Trevor Brazile in action and also at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame induction ceremony have been published by The Fence Post magazine. You can click the link or the image to reach the article with photos. https://www.thefencepost.com/news/brazile-inducted-into-prorodeo-hall-of-fame-in-2022/

Trevor Brazile was 10 years into his incredible rodeo career and already piling up world titles and big wins, including this Tie Down Roping winning effort during the short go of the historic 100th National Western Stock Show in 2006. Image by Lincoln Rogers – All rights reserved.

A new photo spread of mine has just been published. While the four-day Pikes Peak or Bust NFR Open rodeo was another sell out affair, organizers pride themselves on offering more than just a rodeo. Over time, they have grown the event’s “Fan Zone” entertainment to become a popular family-friendly destination and the rodeo’s long association with helping active duty military families blends a military flavor into all the proceedings at the historic Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs. https://www.thefencepost.com/news/more-than-just-a-rodeo/

The Fan Zone at the 2022 Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo was filled with family-friendly activities of an agricultural nature, including this popular petting zoo tent that housed a pony, a donkey, some goats, sheep and even a llama.

Please read the article, where you will see quotes from CALF youth participants (Kenzie Summervill and Isabelle Carlblom) as well as hear from the CEO of CALF (Brooke Fox) and its new Program Manager, Alyce Todd. Another Magazine Cover Image

Did I mention in a previous post that having an image of mine be on a magazine cover never gets old? Well… it never gets old.

I had a great time covering the historic Rooftop Rodeo in gorgeous Estes Park, Colorado on July 08, 2021. Rodeo is so family oriented and such a traditional event. It is one of the reasons I like covering it so much. Displaying some of that family atmosphere about rodeo was Rooftop Rodeo Chairman Mark Purdy, as he talked with me and another photographer friend for a bit behind the scenes while holding his two-year-old granddaughter Caroline. I snapped a quick photo while we were talking and I thought it managed to capture the love of a grandpa for his grandchild.

As a pleasant surprise, so did The Fence Post magazine.

Lincoln Rogers’ photo of Rooftop Rodeo Chairman Mark Purdy and his two-year-old granddaughter Caroline on the cover of the July 19, 2021 issue of The Fence Post magazine.

Many thanks to The Fence Post magazine for choosing that image to be on their cover for the week of July 19, 2021.

Happy Flag Day fellow Americans!

I Am Ready!

2020 was a lost year for covering events. Due to COVID regulations and mandates, long running and traditional events were cancelled left and right.

But things change. And in Colorado, there are finally changing for the better.

This coming weekend – June 03-06, 2021 – the Colorado rodeo season starts in earnest with the award winning Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo in Elizabeth, CO.

Utah bull rider Tyler Bingham had a crowd pleasing ride aboard Summit Pro Rodeo’s Red Stuff.

I am ready to cover the rodeo, put together a photo spread and, honestly… get back to normal.

How about you? Are you ready to get back in the saddle?

Barrel racing action at the Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo (Elizabeth, CO) is always fast and furious!

If so, I will see you at the rodeo!

Colorado Rodeo Season!

You know the rodeo season in Colorado is starting in earnest when the Elizabeth Stampede in Elizabeth, CO is right around the corner.

With awards lavished upon it by the Mountain States Circuit cowboys AND the PRCA, the Elizabeth Stampede is one of, if not THE, best small town rodeos in the country.

The cowboy protection at the 2016 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo was excellent, as displayed by Cade Burns flying in to take a hit in order to distract the bull away from a downed cowboy.

And now it’s right around the corner for June 03-06, 2021.

I quickly popped together a video, less than a minute long, that includes a number of my photographs taken during the Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo from 2014-2019.

I hope you enjoy! Click here or copy and past the following link of my video from Rumble.com.

Pecan Pie Memory…

Can’t you just taste it?

This time of year – coming up close to the traditional Thanksgiving Day holiday and meal with family – starts getting my memory synapses firing on all cylinders.  I like dessert, so one of my favorite memories is the taste of warm Pecan Pie after an amazing Thanksgiving Day meal.

Image

It’s not just the taste of the pie I enjoy relishing in my mind.  That warm Pecan Pie nostalgia also brings with it a host of other great memories.  Laughter around the table.  Smiles and hugs with loved ones.  A time when people are happy to be with each other.

Can’t you just taste it?
