The National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, CO saw record-breaking crowds show up over its first weekend of January 07-08, 2023. I was able to sit down with NWSS President & CEO Paul Andrews on that first weekend’s Sunday afternoon to get his thoughts on the record turnout. Hint: America and even the tv show Yellowstone might be involved in those record numbers…

Blistering Barrel Racing Pace Set at 100th Greeley Stampede

A new short article of mine (with excellent help from Bonnie Wheatley) has been published on the Barrel Racing Magazine website. Oklahoma barrel racer Paige Jones and 10-year-old Famous Hayday stopped the timers in a fast 16.73-seconds on Sunday afternoon at 2022’s 100th Greeley Stampede rodeo. That time put her more than a half-second ahead of the rest of the field, so far, in the first round of barrel racing. The Friday night Extreme Bulls competition at the Elizabeth Stampede sells out well in advance every year, because the fans are always treated to well-known bull riders and athletic beasts with bad attitudes.

Great rodeo to cover for publication! Fast horses, big action and awesome weather this past weekend in Elizabeth, CO. I am neck deep in working on photos and interviews, but will post items from the recent 2022 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo when I get a chance. Here is one image I have ready. Experienced Colorado barrel racer Kelly Yates won the barrel racing title in 2022.

Veteran Colorado barrel racer Kelly Yates powered around the first barrel and showed the sold-out Sunday afternoon crowd how it was done as she absolutely blazed through the pattern in a time of 16.08 seconds on her way to picking up the 2022 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo’s barrel racing title. The Elizabeth Stampede regularly has NFR competitors and former WPRA world champions show up to compete in the award winning rodeo, so a win in Elizabeth comes against stiff competition.

I Am Ready!

2020 was a lost year for covering events. Due to COVID regulations and mandates, long running and traditional events were cancelled left and right.

But things change. And in Colorado, there are finally changing for the better.

This coming weekend – June 03-06, 2021 – the Colorado rodeo season starts in earnest with the award winning Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo in Elizabeth, CO.

Utah bull rider Tyler Bingham had a crowd pleasing ride aboard Summit Pro Rodeo’s Red Stuff.

I am ready to cover the rodeo, put together a photo spread and, honestly… get back to normal.

Pecan Pie Memory…

Can’t you just taste it?

This time of year – coming up close to the traditional Thanksgiving Day holiday and meal with family – starts getting my memory synapses firing on all cylinders.  I like dessert, so one of my favorite memories is the taste of warm Pecan Pie after an amazing Thanksgiving Day meal.

It’s not just the taste of the pie I enjoy relishing in my mind.  That warm Pecan Pie nostalgia also brings with it a host of other great memories.  Laughter around the table.  Smiles and hugs with loved ones.  A time when people are happy to be with each other.

Can’t you just taste it?
