I Can’t Help But Love It

The Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo designates its Sunday afternoon performance as the “Red, White and Blue Rodeo” and it is a “Stars and Stripes” affair to honor local service men and women both past and present. They really do a nice job of showing honor and respect for those who have served in the military, as well as honoring the patriotic symbols that harken back to the founding principles of our country. They rocked the singing of the National Anthem by bringing out this Bald Eagle and holding it aloft while it flapped its wings during the closing lines of the anthem. It was an inspiring sight and environment and I loved capturing it with my camera.

A sold out Sunday afternoon crowd at the 2022 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo were
treated to the sight of our nation’s National Bird, the Bald Eagle, held aloft near
the end of the singing of the National Anthem before the start of action inside
the arena. The third and last PRCA rodeo performance on Sunday afternoon
is the Stampede’s Red, White & Blue Rodeo.

Rodeo and Patriotism

Patriotism is just a love of your country and its founding principles. It seems people these days want to try and make it a divisive issue, but that’s all it really is. Tradition can play a large role in that love. Rodeo is full of tradition. It also makes a point to respect and honor the traditions and symbols of the USA. I love how much respect and honor the American flag receives at a rodeo performance, but there are also enduring glimpses of other iconic symbols of the USA. I saw this one last year before the start of the 2021 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo’s Friday night Bull Riding competition.

A Bald Eagle made an appearance at the start of the Friday night bull riding at the 2021 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo. It would be in the arena during the singing of the National Anthem.

Loved the moment. The majestic Bald Eagle caught in gorgeous sunset light. These kinds of moments are part of the reason I love the photographing the sport of rodeo.

Chuckwagons at 2021 Cheyenne Frontier Days

The Cheyenne Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming is one of the coolest events on the planet. It has been going for 125 years and is also the “World’s Largest Outdoor Rodeo.”

One of my favorite things at Cheyenne is the chuckwagon cooking competition. Not so much the competition itself, but the chuckwagons and all the great people that own, run, and help out with those wagons.

I met more great people in Cheyenne in 2021. Adam Hanger from Middlebrook, Virginia and his family and friends brought their chuckwagon (The Shenandoah) all the way from Middlebrook, Virginia to compete for the third time at the 2021 Cheyenne Frontier Days. I had a great conversation with Adam about why they travel all the way out to Cheyenne with their chuckwagon and parts of that conversation will be in a future article, along with photos, about the chuckwagons at Cheyenne.

2021 Greeley Stampede Photos

The historic Greeley Stampede returned in 2021 for its 99th running and the surrounding community showed up in huge numbers to support their big summer rodeo and the concerts and events that are also held in the 8,000+ seat arena.

At the conclusion of 2021 rodeo action, Beutler and Son Rodeo Company bucking horses were let loose inside the Greeley Stampede arena to show the appreciative crowd how the horses look when they’re not competing against a cowboy.

Flag Day in the USA commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The Flag Resolution, passed on June 14, 1777, stated: “Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”

The Last Remaining…

Those words sound almost mournful. The last remaining…

That means there used to be more, maybe even a plentiful supply.

But now there is one.

Drawing their sabres, the last Marine Mounted Color Guard presents the colors as ready for the singing of the National Anthem and the kickoff of rodeo action before a sold-out Saturday night crowd (June 05) at the 2021 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo in Elizabeth, CO.

The last remaining Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard participated again in the 2021 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo in Elizabeth, CO. If you appreciate having Old Glory honored with a bit of pomp and circumstance, you would love to see how these Marines ride in with the colors and present them for the singing of the National Anthem.

It is awesome. They are awesome.

And they are the last remaining…

Memorial Day

While many people tend to treat the Memorial Day holiday as an extended weekend, the kickoff to summertime grilling, or even a time to throw a party…

It is much more than that.

It is a time to remember those who have died in military service for our country. They died serving to protect the freedoms we so often take for granted and now even see eroding away around us.

Memorial Day is an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives in military service to our country.

It is a time to reflect on their sacrifices and the importance of the freedoms and American way of life they died to protect and preserve.

Some gave all…

Most important… it is an opportunity to honor their ultimate sacrifices by being the best American citizens we can be. That means being an American that stands for freedom, stands against evil and corruption in all their forms, and honors the flame of a Christian-nation vision first held aloft by our Founding Fathers.

John Adams — Founding Father, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and the second President of the United States of America.

May this Memorial Day weekend find you blessed and willing to reflect on the debt we owe to those who have sacrificed their lives to preserve our American way of life. The pen of Abraham Lincoln was mighty and I cannot improve upon the words he wrote and then spoke during his Gettysburg Address:

“… we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

Stampeding Ahead!

2021 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo is ready to go for June 03-06, 2021

Forced to cancel the 2020 Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo in Elizabeth, CO, rodeo organizers were faced with more unknowns in the beginning of 2021, but they rolled up their sleeves and secured 150% of sponsorships they had in the past. It was a strategy that allowed them to move forward.

“We did it,” said Elizabeth Stampede President Traci McClain.  “We got 50% more sponsors than we have ever had in the past — 150% of normal.  The community really stepped up. They reached out and supported us in a big way.”

With the state of Colorado dropping mask mandates in May and declaring other coronavirus state public health orders will expire June 01, Stampede officials are looking forward to a busy rodeo, albeit one with safety measures and precautions in place.

“We want everyone to be safe,” added McClain.  “I think we have the safeguards in place that we need to do to make it safe for our participants – contestants, spectators, contractors, everybody – to allow them to make choices.”

Kicking off with a concert on Thursday night (June 03) that features three entertainers or, as Stampede organizers like to call it, “A Trio of Talent” — the three dynamic up-and-comers are making a splash in the music scene: Dillon Carmichael, Lainey Wilson, and Kameron Marlowe.

Friday night is bull riding and is annually sold out in advance of the rodeo, and Saturday night’s PRCA rodeo is annually sold out in advance, as well. The afternoon performances on Saturday and Sunday traditionally have solid crowds, but walk up tickets can usually be purchased. Don’t miss out on Sunday afternoon’s Red, White & Blue Rodeo, which features a love of all things USA and honors those who have served and are serving in our nation’s armed forces.

The Elizabeth Stampede’s Blazing Saddles drill team impressed the crowd with a patriotic routine during Sunday afternoon’s Red, White and Blue Rodeo (June 05, 2016).

“Life, Liberty and Rodeo,” summed up McClain in reference to a new trademarked slogan and apparel design they have come up with for 2021’s rodeo. “That is our guiding principle, this year.”
